Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

The Problem

All over the world, millions of children are living in orphanages and sadly, less than one percent will ever be adopted. In most of the areas where we work, teens age out of an orphanage at age 16. Unbelievably, with few possessions, they are turned out onto the streets to fend for themselves.

Within two years of leaving the orphanage in Ukraine, it is estimated that:

27% will find work
30% will become addicted to drugs
60% of the girls will turn to prostitution
70% of the boys will turn to crime
15% will commit suicide

At Heart for Orphans we see the hopelessness of orphaned children and hear the cries of their hearts. And when you have looked into the eyes of a lost child you can’t turn a blind eye, something has to be done. This is the premise that our organization is built upon. Orphaned children are individuals who are created and loved by God. Children who have a hope and a future. We, as compassionate people, are compelled to use the tools and resources God has entrusted us with to serve these children and help to direct them to a new path that will change their lives and communities.

A Christian friend invited me to a home where people like me lived. The most incredible revelation was these people loved each other, and they respected and supported one another. They were not relatives, just people off the street, who lived like a family, and loved God and each other. They were the family I never had!
